International Animal Rescue Saving animals from suffering around the world

Erick is a young howler monkey, currently being cared for at the refuge for wildlife in Costa Rica.

The rescue team found him alone in the wild with several broken fingers. It is not clear how this tiny monkey ended up all alone and injured but it is likely his mother died from a fall, with Erick clinging on to her back.

In spite of his difficult start in life, Erick is making a brilliant recovery at the refuge. His index finger is still a little crooked but that doesn’t stop climbing around and enjoying plenty of treats. This young monkey has a very calm and gentle personality and he can often be seen playing in the outdoor jungle gym or lounging in the hot Costa-Rican sun.

The refuge is run by our partners, Refuge for Wildlife, and as a result of your kind donations to our howler monkey rescue project, they have been able to introduce new toys into the play area. One of the new toys is a bamboo swing, which Erick absolutely loves!

Enrichment activities like these will help Erick to develop his natural survival and help to prepare him to be a release candidate in the future. Thank you to everyone that has supported this project. Without you, the on-going care provided to monkeys like Erick would not be possible.
