Sanctuary

Our priority is to prevent animals from suffering. To do that, we rescue them from situations of cruelty, captivity and displacement, and give them the care and rehabilitation they need to recover and, wherever possible, return to the wild. But, when that isn't possible we offer them lifelong sanctuary.

Sadly, not every rescued animal can return to its natural habitat. Some, such as dancing bears who have had their teeth removed by their captors, are simply unable to survive in the wild. Others, such as orangutans who have spent years confined to cages, may no longer have the physical or psychological resilience to cope with life in the forest.

For these animals, sanctuary means a safe and secure home for life. We are committed to providing an environment that is as close as possible to the natural habitat they were denied.

Animals living in sanctuary receive:

A semi-wild forever home

Acres of natural habitat to explore — protected from human conflict and predators they cannot defend themselves against.

Environmental Enrichment

Dens, climbing structures, natural pools and ever-changing enrichment keep animals curious, active and engaged, while encouraging natural behaviours.

Species Appropriate Food

We provide nutritious diets tailored to each species, replicating natural feeding and foraging behaviours as closely as possible.

Expert Veterinary Care for Life

Our resident veterinary teams provide lifelong care, from routine health checks to specialist medical and dental treatment, helping every animal live in comfort, health and dignity.

New Rescue Centre and Sanctuary in Costa Rica

In 2024, we proudly opened our new rescue centre and wildlife sanctuary in Costa Rica, marking an exciting new chapter in our work. Home to some of the richest biodiversity on the planet, Costa Rica's wildlife faces growing threats from habitat loss, road traffic, power lines and the illegal pet trade.
