What we do

We rescue animals worldwide and protect the wild places they depend on. Through rescue, rehabilitation and habitat protection, we give vulnerable animals a safer future. We work hand in hand with trusted local partners, building long-term relationships to create lasting change.

Since International Animal Rescue was founded in 1989, we’ve believed that lasting change comes from tackling the root causes of animal suffering and habitat loss, not just the symptoms.

That’s why we put people at the heart of everything we do, working alongside local communities to develop sustainable solutions that protect animals, restore habitats and create a better future where people and wildlife can thrive side by side.

Together with our dedicated supporters, committed partners and local communities, we’re creating lasting change for animals, people and the natural world.

Our Three Focus Areas

Animals

Protecting animals is at the heart of everything we do. We rescue animals from suffering, rehabilitate them, and where possible, release them back into the wild, where they belong.

Conservation

We collaborate with local communities on projects that protect and restore vital habitats at scale, to ensure a safer future for animals, people and the planet.

Communities

When communities thrive, wildlife thrives too. We work with local people to reduce pressure on the environment, improve wellbeing, and protect the forests that both people and wildlife depend on.

Our Approach

Rescue, Rehabilitation & Release

Around the world wild animals are suffering due to human activity. We work with dedicated local partners to rescue animals in urgent need and provide the specialist veterinary care and rehabilitation they need to recover and return to the wild.

Tackling Illegal Wildlife Trade

Tackling the illegal wildlife trade is at the heart of everything we do. Because rescuing animals isn’t enough, we work with our partners to stop the trade at its root.

Providing Sanctuary

We rescue animals from cruelty, captivity and suffering and give them the care they need to recover. When release back into the wild isn’t possible, we offer them a safe home, for life.
