Smart Giving

If you’re 70½ or older in the USA, you can donate up to $100,000 per tax year directly from your Individual Retirement Account (IRA) to International Animal Rescue. You can also give via stocks and shares or through a Donor Advised Fund (DAF).

A Tax-saving Way to Support International Animal Rescue

Did you know you can help save animals and save on taxes in the USA?

IRA gifts, also known as Qualified Charitable Distributions (QCD) or charitable rollovers, allow your donation dollars to potentially be excluded from your taxable income and qualify towards your required minimum distribution (RMD).

Why consider an IRA gift?

Making a gift from your IRA is a powerful way to support the work of International Animal Rescue while managing your retirement income in a tax-efficient way.

Your gift could help:

    • satisfy your Required Minimum Distribution (RMD)
    • reduce your taxable income
    • support animal rescue and habitat protection in your lifetime.

Donor Advised Funds (UK & USA)

If you have a donor-advised fund (DAF) or a similar charitable giving account, you can use it to support International Animal Rescue and put money you’ve already set aside for charity to work for animals in need. In the US, these accounts are held with organisations such as Fidelity Charitable, Schwab Charitable or a community foundation. In the UK, the most common is a CAF Charitable Trust account. To give to International Animal Rescue, just log in to your account and recommend a one-off or regular grant using our details below. If you’d like your gift to support a particular project, such as our orangutan rescue work in Indonesia, you can note this when you make your recommendation.

FAQs

A QCD is a transfer made directly from your IRA to a qualified charity. If you are age 70½ or older, the distribution can generally be excluded from your taxable income.

You can make a Qualified Charitable Distribution if you:

  • Are 70½ or older
  • Have funds in a traditional or inherited IRA
  • Direct your IRA custodian to transfer funds directly to the charity
You may donate up to the IRS annual QCD limit per year (indexed for inflation).
For example, the limit is over $100,000 per person per year, and married couples with separate IRAs can each give up to the limit.
Per IRS regulations, QCDs cannot be made to a donor-advised fund (DAF), charitable remainder trust, or charitable gift annuity.  However, they can be made to charitable organizations like International Animal Rescue for specific programs outside of your DAF.

To count for the current tax year, your IRA gift must be completed by December 31. Because processing can take time, it’s wise to begin the process several weeks before year-end.
Yes. Our organization will send you a written acknowledgment of your gift for your records. Your IRA custodian will also provide Form 1099-R for tax reporting.
