BATUTEGI FILM SELECTED AS FINALIST IN LEADING FILM FESTIVAL

Batutegi: Seeds of Hope, a documentary film created by IAR, has been selected as a finalist at the 2026 Big Syn International Film Festival in London, the world’s biggest sustainability film festival.

Members of the public are able to have their say and vote for their favourite film via the Big Syn Instagram page. The winning film or films will be screened on Piccadilly Lights, Europe’s largest curved digital advertising screen, at Piccadilly Circus in London this November.

A STORY OF HOPE

Batutegi: Seeds of Hope is a powerful 28-minute documentary that tells the inspiring story of a pioneering local conservation movement led by our partners, YIARI.

Originally scouted as a release site for rescued slow lorises, Batutegi has become a beacon of hope through a community-led conservation model that protects wildlife, restores forest habitat and improves local livelihoods.

Featuring interviews with farmers, forest rangers, law enforcement officers, and conservation leaders, the film reveals the challenges and triumphs of building trust and resilience in the face of ecological crisis. With stunning visuals and heartfelt testimonies, this is a story of a forest, a community, and a future that depends on both.

A LAND UNDER THREAT

This year, the message of conservation, sustainability and hope that is the central to the Batutegi film is even more poignant, due to the devastating impact of wildfires across much of Indonesia.

The land at Batutegi is parched due to this year’s super El Nino and we’ve already experienced some wildfires there. Thankfully, they’ve been less severe than other areas in Indonesia and local firefighters have been able to quickly bring them under control so far. Raising awareness of the ecological significance of this land, and the challenges it faces, is more important than ever.
