Conflict of Interest Policy

International Animal Rescue (IAR) expects all directors, officers and key employees to act with honesty and integrity, and to put the interests of IAR ahead of any personal or private interest.

What is a conflict of interest

A conflict of interest arises when a director, officer or employee has a personal, financial or other interest that could influence, or appear to influence, a decision they make on behalf of IAR. This can include financial interests in another organisation, outside employment or board positions, family relationships, or gifts and hospitality that could be seen to affect their judgement.

Reporting a conflict

All directors and key employees are required to disclose any actual or potential conflict of interest as soon as it arises. Disclosures should be made to the Board of Directors and are recorded by IAR.

Managing a conflict

Anyone with a disclosed conflict of interest must not take part in any discussion or vote on the matter concerned. The Board of Directors decides how a conflict should be managed, which may include excusing the individual from the decision altogether.

Oversight

The Board of Directors monitors conflicts of interest on an ongoing basis to ensure this policy is being followed.
