The Rainforest Run Returns for 2021!

7th July 2021
Rainforest Run 2021

We are calling on people across the world to take part in The Rainforest Run on Sunday, 26th September. Now in its third year, the event aims to raise funds to protect precious rainforest habitat and, as it’s a virtual event, anyone anywhere in the world can sign up and join in.

Participants are being encouraged to tailor their activity to their own ability, completing the 5K distance running, jogging, walking, skipping – or in any other way they choose. The aim is to get sponsored, get fit and get raising funds for the rainforest - and have fun while doing so.

We are working to inspire a global movement of people who are passionate about the environment to take immediate action to protect the rainforest – the ‘lungs of the planet.’ By conserving the rainforest and its vital ecosystems, we will safeguard our own future and that of endangered species like the orangutan. Climate change and biodiversity loss are having a catastrophic effect on the world and rainforests are a vital component in the war against global temperature rises.

Working alongside the BKSDA (The Natural Resources Conservation Agency), IAR Indonesia is dedicated to protecting orangutans and their forest habitats. Orphaned

infants are cared for and painstakingly rehabilitated before eventually being released back into the forest. This conservation project aims to protect precious forests, the wildlife living in them and the communities who live alongside them. Through methods such as reforestation and education, IAR Indonesia is working at every level to ensure that the rainforest is protected and preserved.

Mary Howard, Community Fundraising Executive, says: “The Rainforest Run is a unique opportunity to help raise funds to protect the rainforests. It’s not just orangutans and other wildlife that need this precious habitat if they are to survive and thrive. The survival of all species, including human beings, depends on whether we can improve the health of the planet in the years ahead.

“Now’s the chance for everyone who cares about personal and planetary health to get fit and get sponsored for The Rainforest Run. There’s plenty of time to start training and get in shape for The Run on 26th September and we’ll be here to lend our runners all the support they need.”

Everyone who signs up will receive regular updates about the event and information on creating a fundraising page. Exclusive IAR running shirts will soon be on sale via the website and every participant who raises more than £100 in sponsorship will receive a free Rainforest Run medal in recognition of their achievement.
