IAR Patron Jo Brand headlines evening of stand up for animals

1st September 2011

IAR patron and award winning comedian Jo BrandBAFTA award-winning comedian Jo Brand is the star attraction at an evening of stand up comedy on Friday 23 September. The event at the Leicester Square Theatre is being hosted by self-styled ‘king of light entertainment’ Lenny Beige and will also feature fabulous guests such as Rachel Parris - Finalist New Act of the Year in 2011 and Finalist in the Funny Women Awards in 2010.

The evening is being held to raise money for International Animal Rescue’s work saving animals from suffering around the world. In 2006 we were delighted when Jo agreed to become a patron of the charity and in 2009 she took part in ‘Celebrity Who Wants to be a Millionaire’ with Nick Hancock and raised £25,000 for us. She also introduced fellow comedian Bill Bailey to International Animal Rescue: Bill has been an enthusiastic supporter of IAR’s bear rescue project and also became an IAR patron in 2006.

Alan Knight OBE, Chief Executive of IAR, said: “We’re absolutely thrilled that Jo has agreed to support the event which is going to be a really fun night for everyone, as well as a great way to raise funds for our work. I have no doubt that it will be a tremendous success. My advice to anyone thinking of coming along is: “Book now to avoid disappointment!”

The benefit is on for one night only and brings together a unique set of performers who are all donating their time for free. Alan Knight and his team will also be present to talk and answer any questions about the charity’s work at the end of the show.
