Intro

We need your support to build an urgently needed rescue centre in Armenia.

Since 2017 we have rescued over 36 bears from confinement in Armenia. Caged, beaten, and abused, some of them had spent DECADES in captivity, with nothing but scraps of food and their own rotting faeces to keep them company.

As you read this, there are over 50 brown bears suffering inside tiny, filthy cages across various tourist hotspots in Armenia. We desperately want to reach them all, but there is no more room at the current centre and our rescue operations have halted as a result.

By donating today, YOU will help us build a new, state-of-the-art rescue centre so we can save every single suffering bear and give them the love they desperately need.

We cannot build this rescue centre without your help. Over 50 captive bears are still being held captive in disgusting conditions across Armenia and it is our duty to rescue them.

Be A part of the build

We need your support to raise the funds needed to make this build a reality. By making a donation today, you will be joining our family of funders, helping us to keep our promise to rescue every suffering bear in Armenia.

You will be a part of the build, a part of every rescue and a part of ending the suffering for good. As a thank you for joining us, we are excited to be able to offer exclusive  gestures of gratitude, to ensure you are kept up to date and involved every step of the way.

No matter what you give today, your donation will go towards a kinder and more compassionate future. Please join us and our growing family of supporters by making a donation today.

A New Home

We are equipping this centre with everything a bear would need for a brighter future. From large enclosures filled with specialised enrichment activities, to a brand-new veterinary clinic and quarantine centre, complemented with a specialist team of vets and keepers. We are not leaving a single stone unturned and will do everything in our power to ensure they recover from the trauma cruelly inflicted upon them.

Our commitment to sustainability means the centre will be powered entirely via a solar grid.  We will also grow fresh food for the bears in orchards, and gather water from our own reservoir.

New centre

This new centre will include a state-of-the-art veterinary clinic and quarantine centre. As is often the case with the bears that we rescue, many of them will need urgent medical treatment and all are kept in quarantine for a number of weeks after their arrival.

Bears will often arrive at the centre malnourished and dehydrated, in need of the right nutrition and often receiving extra supplements. Some bears will also need urgent dental care, as they will have broken teeth from endlessly gnawing at the bars on their cages through sheer boredom.

Not only will this new clinic be vital to newly rescued bears arriving at the centre, but is also crucial to the bears already in our care, so they can receive the best possible treatment for any medical issues. Our dedicated veterinary team provide 24/7 medical care, and by building a brand new facility, we’ll be able to give them the best care possible and set them on the road to recovering from their traumatic experiences.

Clinic and quarantine

Please donate whatever you can and help build a brand new centre in Armenia, with a state-of-the-art veterinary clinic; only with your help, can we continue to provide the very best care to these amazing bears.

We rescue bears from truly horrific conditions, with many bears being poached from the wild at such a young age that all they know is life behind bars. These bears need to learn what it means to be a bear, how to forage, how to hibernate and how to socialise with other bears. We have seen rescued bears, when released into larger enclosures, pace back and forth in a tiny area, unsure how to navigate a space bigger than the tiny cage they had been confined to.

Healing these broken bears takes expert veterinary care and extensive enrichment opportunities. Through rehabilitation, we are able to transform the lives of these bears that have spent years neglected in captivity. The new center will allow us to bring hope to more bears in need, as well as enabling us to provide ample enrichment activities such as wobble trees, water pools and larger natural enclosures to allow the bears more space to exhibit and learn wild behaviours.

Your support will build a center dedicated to providing as natural an environment as possible, with a number of enrichment activities to ensure that the bears are given the very best life we can possibly provide.

At International Animal Rescue, we are committed to doing all we can to lessen our impact on local and global environments. Sustainability has been at the heart of planning and we are very proud to be working towards the center being largely self sufficient, reducing the global impact of our operations.

The new center will be powered by a solar farm, in addition to having a water reservoir and fruit orchards. The solar farm will generate electricity that we will be able to sell through the grid, thus offsetting our running costs and ensuring all our electricity is as eco-friendly as possible.

The fruit orchards (to include apple, pear and apricot trees!) will provide a varied and nutritious diet to our rescued bears, reducing costs and environmental impact as the fruit will be grown on the land and therefore not need to be purchased or transported. The water reservoir will supply all the water needed to run the center, with the electricity to pump the water being generated by the solar farm.
