Our team in Kalimantan, West Borneo have rescued another orangutan in Ketapang, that had been sold by a hunter. Paini is about 3 years old and is female. Her owner bought her from the hunter for about USD 40. The owner explained that the hunters didn’t hunt orangutan, but that they had found the baby orangutan alone in the forest.
The owner says that he bought Paini because he felt sorry for her and wanted to rescue her.
Soon after he bought the orangutan, approximately two weeks, he called our team and asked for them to come and collect her.
Paini will have a series of medical checks and spend time in our quarantine centre, then faces years of rehabilitation at our Orangutan Rescue and Rehabilitation Centre before she can be released back to the wild.
