International Animal Rescue patron Jo Brand (Photo: Piers Allardyce)Our fabulous patron Jo Brand headlined a night of superb stand up comedy on 23 September to raise money for International Animal Rescue. Hosted by the hilarious Lenny Beige, the event at the Leicester Square Theatre also included sparkling performances from Aletia Upstairs and Wendy Long, Charmaine Davies, Rachel Parris, Max Dowler and Joanne Lau.

Alan Knight, Chief Executive of International Animal Rescue, said: “I can’t thank the performers enough for giving up their free time to put on a night of such wonderful entertainment. They were all absolutely first-class and Jo had us all helpless with laughter. The audience was very warm and enthusiastic and clearly loved all the acts. What a wonderful way to raise awareness of IAR and raise funds to support our work.

“International Animal Rescue (IAR) is best known for saving dancing bears from the streets of India but now we’re also working in Indonesia to rescue orangutans and other primates from the illegal wildlife trade and the effects of deforestation. We’re doing everything we can to raise funds for a new orangutan rehabilitation centre in Borneo where up to 100 orangutans at a time can be prepared for release back into the wild. The proceeds from ‘Stand up for animals’, which amounts to roughly £5,000 from ticket sales alone, will be a very welcome contribution towards the costs of the new centre.”
