International Animal Rescue has spent the past six years creating a rescue and rehabilitation centre in West Kalimantan (Indonesian Borneo.)
The centre is home to more than 80 orangutans that have been left homeless and hungry by the relentless march of the palm oil industry taking over their rainforest habitat.
Now this fabulous coffee-table book, illustrated with hundreds of stunning full-colour photographs, shows how the dedicated veterinary staff and volunteers are working tirelessly to protect the future of the primate with the nearest DNA to man.
Written by animal welfare pioneer Sean Whyte and IAR Chief Executive Alan Knight OBE, “Orangutan Rescue” gives readers a unique insight into the highs and lows of rescuing and rehabilitating these magnificent great apes with the ultimate aim of returning them to their rightful home in protected areas of forest.
Whilst the book describes how the clinic near the small town of Ketapang in West Kalimantan came into existence, it is the orangutans who are the stars of the story with many becoming worldwide internet sensations as their rescue and progress back to health is followed on social media.
