Give Lisa the Gift of Freedom
On Tuesday 17th October we will be celebrating Giving Day for Apes – and we need your help.
We need to raise $40,000 to give rescued orangutan Lisa the greatest gift of all; freedom.
At the end of October, we plan to release Lisa into a protected National Park so she can be free to live in the trees where she belongs.
In her short life, Lisa has already overcome so much. She was rescued by our team in 2015 when she was just three years old. She had been kept as a pet and it is likely that she will have watched her mother die before being snatched by poachers. There was a tight rope tied around her neck and she was suffering from superficial wounds on her head and neck. She was in a poor condition, bloated as a result of a poor diet and intestinal worms. She required urgent specialist treatment from our expert vets.
Thankfully, Lisa made a remarkable recovery and quickly started to display a number of positive wild behaviours. In fact, as soon as she was moved into baby school she climbed high up in the trees and built a nest! She proved to be an expert in foraging, climbing and nest building.
And now, after everything she has been through, she is ready to return to her home in the forest. So to mark Giving Day for Apes, we want to invite you all to be a part of something truly amazing – an orangutan release.
