Emergency Dancing Bear Appeal

The story of Emily the dancing bear has been described by her keeper as “an epic case of pain and misery.”

Emily spent the first 12 years of her life dancing on the streets of India. Like most dancing bears, a red hot iron rod was used to pierce her muzzle – but in Emily’s case this process was even more vicious than usual and her muzzle was ripped open.

The pain Emily must have endured during this brutal act is almost unthinkable.

With a rope through her torn nose and partially blind in both eyes, Emily lived a life of abject misery on the hot, dusty streets. As well as her mutilated muzzle, her teeth had been deliberately broken and were rotting and infected. Emily was in constant pain when we rescued her from her cruel master.

We can’t undo what happened to Emily but we can make sure she now lives a healthy, happy life.

The fact is, we desperately need your help to continue caring for bears like Emily in our sanctuaries in India.

Thanks to supporters like you we were able to cut them free from dancing on the streets – but we still have a responsibility to them for the rest of their lives.

We’re currently facing a huge challenge to raise the money needed to feed and care for them.

Sadly, at the moment we are behind with our fundraising efforts.

We really hope you can help us by sending a donation today of whatever you can afford.

After years in captivity, the bears no longer have the skills or the strength to fend for themselves in the wild – they simply can’t survive without us.

Emily’s story makes us more determined to continue providing her with the best possible care. It’s the least we can do after all she has suffered. Emily is just one bear among more than 350 bears that all have their own tragic stories. But with your help we can continue caring for them all today, tomorrow and for the rest of their lives.

Thank you in advance for whatever you can give to help us care for her.
