Large male orangutan safe in the wild thanks to rescue and conservation groups

Large male OrangutanInternational Animal Rescue has successfully relocated a large male orangutan into a safe area of forest purchased and protected by conservation group Fauna and Flora International (FFI).

The majestic male with large cheek pads had been displaced by the destruction of his habitat for a palm oil plantation and would certainly have been killed or kept captive had IAR not stepped in to rescue him.

Alan Knight, Chief Executive of International Animal Rescue, said: "Thanks to FFI we were able to relocate and release this magnificent orangutan into an area where he will be safe. Wildlife rescue and habitat protection go hand in hand and if it weren't for FFI and a number of other conservation groups it would be impossible for these threatened animals to remain in the wild."
