IAR animal hospital takes in first spring casualties

Injured harrier now in the care of IAR Malta At the beginning of April the International Animal Rescue bird hospital in Malta took in its first spring casualty - an injured harrier which a police patrol found in a country layby in the south of Malta. The raptor had a broken wing which is now being treated by Max Farrugia of IAR Malta.

Injured hedgehog now in the care of IAR Malta As well as this protected bird species, the hospital also received two hedgehogs.

One had been hit by a car and had to be put to sleep, but the second one is recovering well and will be released in the coming weeks.

A win for greyhounds in Massachusetts
On 4 November the people of Massachusetts, USA voted overwhelmingly in favour of the Greyhound Protect Act. This legislation will phase out commercial dog racing in the state by 2010.

International Animal Rescue has twice assisted with the treatment of cats and dogs in Morocco by a group of local and foreign volunteers. The initiative was led by vet nurse Claire Sedgewick. She has produced a report describing their work.
