![]() "Each and every one of us has the ability to look at an animal and see if that animal is in pain. And if an animal is in pain, surely if we are human – if we are caring, thinking people – surely it is our responsibility to try to do whatever we can to stop that suffering." Indonesia volunteer guide
Our Indonesian team focuses on the rescue and rehabilitation of macaque monkeys and slow lorises, and also on the Brahminy kite, which is Indonesia's national bird, but sadly very popular as a pet and now highly endangered.
After rescue, medical check-ups and treatment and a quarantine period, the macaques are socialised in groups where they can play and learn to behave like monkeys again.
Eventually we will create a network throughout the whole country and even internationally. International Animal Rescue will also provide lifelong sanctuary for those animals that have had their teeth knocked out and are no longer able to survive in the wild. > Download our Brahminy Kite Rescue leaflet (231kb PDF)
