India: Goa : Resident Dogs : Custard

Name: Custard
Gender: Male
Colour: Brown
Age: 2.5 years

Funny characteristic: His ears touch each other on top of his head.

CustardCustard was admitted to the IAR centre in October 2006 after a road accident nearby which had left him unharmed physically but severely traumatised. Hoping that we could turn him around and make him happy and confident again, we sterilised him and put him up for re-homing. Although all staff did their best to make Custard feel good nothing seemed to help and he remained timid and frightened despite their efforts. Finally, after almost two months, Custard came out of his shell and has become the happiest little dog ever. Just as we thought the worst was over, Custard got infected with mange and lost all his fur in the space of about two weeks. Several baths and courses of antibiotics later and he is back to his handsome self. He is still wary of strangers and too much commotion will make Custard run away and hide but he has come a long way since he first came to us last autumn.
