US couple jailed for starving animals
Fri 30 May 2008 15:25 UK — North America
A man and a woman from Crawford County, Pennsylvania have been given prison sentences after being found guilty of neglecting 20 animals.
Kurt Lino and Holly Reebman, formerly of Summit Township, have each been jailed for 60 days after it was discovered that they were not feeding their pets and that their house was in an unfit state.
The couple were found guilty of animal cruelty towards four dogs, three puppies, ten cats and three rabbits and were also asked to pay court costs, the Meadville Tribune reported.
In addition to their sentences, Mr Lino and Ms Reebman have also been asked to pay the Crawford County Humane Society $6,567.22 for the care their animals have received since being removed from their home.
They have also been banned from keeping animals for 1,800 days.
According to the couple's neighbour Ruthie Wallace, the animals were so hungry that at night-time they could be heard "crying like babies".
