Calling all ape - and cake - lovers to support our “Cakes 4 Apes” Fundraiser for International Orangutan Day!

5th August 2015

To celebrate International Orangutan Day on Wednesday 19 August, International Animal Rescue is inviting all its supporters to hold a fabulous ‘Cakes 4 Apes’ fundraiser to raise money for their Orangutan Rehabilitation Centre in Ketapang, West Borneo.

This is a super-fun way to raise funds for the rescued orangutans in our care. It’s simply a case of organising a small fundraising event - it could be a cake sale, tea and cake party or simply bringing a cake to work and asking for donations!

Supporters can sign up for a free fundraising pack via our website or, if you don’t have a printer, email [email protected]  to order a postal version.

The pack includes fundraising ideas, a poster and invitation template, a factsheet about IAR’s orangutan rescue project, as well as a recipe for a delicious banana loaf cake.

All you have to do is bake (or even buy) some tasty cakes and hold a tea party or a cake sale for your friends at home or your colleagues at work. You could hold a bake off competition and raise money from entry fees, as well as by selling the cakes off afterwards. It really doesn’t matter how you choose to do it, as long as everyone has lots of fun, raises lots of money – and eats plenty of cake!

IAR Fundraiser Phily Kennington said: “Cakes 4 Apes is a fundraising activity for everyone. We all love apes and we all love cakes – so there’s plenty to enjoy by taking part! And with more than 80 orphaned orangutans in our centre, we are always in need of funds for their care and rehabilitation. So we’re calling on as many people as possible to get involved, whether it’s by baking, buying or selling cakes – and eating them of course!”

We can’t wait to hear about how you plan to celebrate ‘Cakes for Apes’ this International Orangutan Day!
